File extension is a suffix that is attached towards the end of any file to define about the file. For eg., if you take an image file, it ends with .jpg extension, a media file will most probably end with (.mpeg),(.mpg),(.avi)., etc. They are usually three characters in length but can be anywhere from one to five characters in length. You should definitely know the file extension of any file, this will be useful for you to open to file. For example, you can open a .jpg(image file) in a notepad, you should open it in a paint or some other software's that opens them. You could fine Over 1,000 file extension definitions in file-extension-library.com. If you want to open a img files means you could open using MagicISO for windows.
